7:18 pm - just the graklebirds and me

I sit still staring
mesmerized by violet.
The almost summer sun slips down,
puts its fast-fading arms
around the old coal mine
across the tracks.
And I twirl around
on ground blacker than sky
flying ghost kites,
running over black hills,
the steel valley soft-crunch under foot.

I catch fireflies in a jar
with sharp punched holes
to give breath.
I want to shine like they do
so i war-paint my face
with the death-smear
of their fading magic.
